Mumbai: Filmmaker Prawaal Raman, who is looking forward to the release of crime-thriller Main Aur Charles, says that he is not glorifying crime in his film, which is based on the life of notorious criminal Charles Sobhraj.
"I have written it not because I want to glorify crime but it's a case study and a character like Charles of course is inspired from a lot of true incidents. A character like that is very enigmatic," the Darna Mana Hai director said.
"I have seen a few glorified criminals. They need to be understood and portrayed in the correct fashion," he said.
Actor Adil Hussain, will be seen playing the role of cop Amod Kanth in Main Aur Charles, while Randeep Hooda portrays Charles. In real life, police officer Mr Kanth carried out the manhunt and was responsible for putting Charles behind the bars. (Also Read: Randeep Hooda Wants Campaign to Free 'Innocent' Charles Sobhraj)
"I play Amod Kanth, who was the master mind behind his conviction, because he came to know about Charles' intention of breaking out of jail," he said.
"Then he takes it almost personally that this man cannot be in the society and run around freely. So that kind of honesty and integrity is what this character has and that's why I wanted to play this role," he added.
Charles Sobhraj is currently in a jail in Nepal, having been convicted for his numerous brutal murders in the 1970s. He was even convicted and jailed in India from 1976 to 1997.
The movie also stars Richa Chadha and Tisca Chopra. It is slated to hit the screens on October 30. (Also Read: Main Aur Charles Trailer: It's Good to be Evil, Says Randeep Hooda)
