Rani Mukerji's work-in-progress film Mardaani 2 is all set to take her to Rajasthan, where a crucial part of the film will be shot. The team will start filming in Rajasthan in the first week of May and the schedule is spread over the month, director Gopi Puthran, who wrote the first Mardaani film, said in a statement. Rani plays the role of a cop, Shivani Shivaji Roy in the film, and apparently, her search for the antagonist brings her to Rajasthan. Gopi Puthran said in a statement: "It's an intense one month long schedule in Rajasthan which forms the backdrop to the story of Mardaani 2. Rani's investigation will take her to Jaipur and Kota. Given that we are shooting in peak summer of Rajasthan, it will be physically demanding because Rani will be doing action sequences too."
"The entire team is thrilled to be shooting in the beautiful state of Rajasthan and we are looking forward to the love and cooperation from the people," he added.
In Mardaani, Shivani Shivaji Roy destroys a human trafficking racket in the search of a young girl, whom her niece befriended. Actor Tahir Raj Bhasin played the antagonist opposite Rani Mukerji in the 2017 film.
Speaking about the villain of Mardaani 2, Rani said in an earlier statement: "Shivani will face a cold, merciless villain who has no empathy, no fear of God and is pure evil. The character has been written superbly and I'm excited to find out who the actor will be."
Mardaani 2 is expected to release later this year.
