Marilyn Monroe's item set the bidding wild

Los Angeles: Screen siren Marilyn Monroe's items which went under the hammer turned out to be a rage at an auction here.

The auction, Profiles in History Icons of Hollywood, sold items much more than their expected price, said The HollywoodReporter.

Camera negatives from the film Some Like It Hot sold for USD 1,500 - five times their expected sales price - and rare shots of Monroe and Clark Gable on the set of The Misfits went under the hammer for USD 2,000 - over three times what they were expected to fetch.

Other Monroe's items sold also included an autographed letter signed by the 18-year-old Norma Jeane for USD 52,500, a personal Monroe photograph signed by Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart and Gary Cooper for USD 60,000, a portrait of a young Monroe wearing a sheer lace trim, signed for USD 7,500, and Monroe's invitation to a John F. Kennedy birthday celebration USD 40,000.
