Los Angeles:
Hollywood legend Marlon Brando's ashes are at the centre of some family drama.
The Godfather star's former wife, Indian actress Anna Kashfi, is alleging that their dead son's ex-girlfriend is holding hostage a portion of the icon's remains.
Christian Brando's girlfriend Donna Lopez Geon, who dated him until his death in 2008, is in possession of a portion of the cremated remains of Marlon, which Kashfi wants to reclaim, reported TMZ online.
Geon held on to some of Christian's belongings after his death, despite a judge ruling that Kashfi was the executor of his estate.
Kashfi has now filed court documents in Los Angeles in an attempt to confiscate the ashes, and other belongings, but Geon has disputed the claim.
"Christian wasn't close with his family and wouldn't have wanted his mother or anyone else to have his property when he died," she told the website.
"When I found out they were coming after the property, I took some of the ashes I have and spread them in Franklin Canyon [in Beverly Hills] ... Marlon loved that place," she said.
After his death aged 80 in 2004, Marlon was cremated and ashes were distributed amongst friends and family, including Christian. Some of his remains were scattered with his childhood friend Wally Cox in Tahiti and Death Valley.
The Brando family has been marred by tragedy and both the film icon's two children are dead.
Christian Brando served five years in jail for killing his half-sister Cheyenne's boyfriend in 1990. He died in hospital aged 49 after being in a coma, while Cheyenne committed suicide in 1995.
Kashfi divorced Marlon in 1959, but the Streetcar Named Desire star once described her as "probably the most beautiful woman I've ever known."
