Matt Damon furious at changes to education

London: Actor Matt Damon has accused the US government of placing too much pressure on teachers by tying their wages to exam results, insisting they should be given more freedom to teach.

The 41-year-old, whose mother is a professor of early childhood education, has called on a different approach after attending a Save our Schools rally in Washington last year, Daily Express reported.

The "Good Will Hunting" star wants to see teachers given the chance to educate properly, and without fear their jobs are on the line if their pupils don't achieve high exam results.

"In America, we're testing children and tying teachers' salaries to the results. That kind of mechanised thinking has nothing to do with higher-order thinking. We're training them, we're not teaching them," he said.
