New Delhi:

Superstar Priyanka Chopra has made headlines for her comments on certain aspects of the Hindi film industry that pushed her to shift base to Hollywood. In the Armchair Expert podcast with American actor-filmmaker Dax Shepard, the multi-hyphenate said that she was “cornered” by some members of the Hindi film industry and was tired of the politics. The actress' comments have earned her the support of several fans and colleagues such as Armaan Mallik and Kangana Ranaut. Sharing a tweet of support posted by Kangana, Priyanka Chopra's cousin, actress Meera Chopra too has revealed her take on the matter. Describing Priyanka's achievements as a “tight slap” on the faces of her detractors, Meera wrote, “No matter how big or successful an outsider becomes, but in the end, they will still be an outsider. Cutting them, smothering them will never stop, if you don't follow the rule book. But what  Priyanka Chopra achieved a tight slap on their faces.”

Speaking about the circumstances around her move to Hollywood, Priyanka Chopra told Dax Shepard, “I was being pushed into a corner in the industry (Bollywood). I had people not casting me, I had beef with people, I am not good at playing that game so I kind of was tired of the politics and I said I needed a break."

Around this time, Anjula Acharia of Desi Hits – who is now the star's manager –  contacted her and asked if she would be interested in a music career in the US. Anjula had seen a demo video of Priyanka Chopra. “This music thing gave me an opportunity to go into another part of the world, not crave for the movies I didn't want to get but I would require to schmooze certain clubs and cliques of people. It would require grovelling and I had worked a long time by then that I didn't feel like I wanted to do it. So, when this music thing came, I was like ‘f*** it, I am going to America',” the actress said.

Extending support to Priyanka Chopra, singer-composer Amaal Mallik also shared an account of his unpleasant experience in Bollywood. Reacting to a news article covering Priyanka Chopra's statements, Amaal Mallik wrote on Twitter, "Well it's something that I face daily. When fans ask me why I don't do as many Bollywood films? Now you know. The truth about campism, bootlicking and powerplay within #Bollywood needs to come out more often...See what they tried to do to this amazing woman," referring to Priyanka.
