Merchants of Bollywood to debut in Toronto

Toronto: The Merchants Of Bollywood, the popular theatrical extravaganza, is all set to make its North American debut with a premiere on November 4.

After its success in London, Paris and Berlin, The Merchants of Bollywood will be staged from November 4 to 14 at the 3,200-capacity Sony Centre in down-town Toronto.

The show will see 40 artistes from Mumbai, led by choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant, performing on several Bollywood hit numbers.

Inspired by the story of the Merchant family, prominent players in the Hindi film industry since the late 1920s, the production features choreography by Vaibhavi, granddaughter of Hiralal Merchant, one of the most influential choreographers in Bollywood history.

According to the show's producer Mark Brady, over 2 million people have seen the show.

The show features the best of dance and song numbers from India's famous films and at heart, it's a story of how to hold onto tradition as the film and dance industries change.
