Actress Meryl Streep has handedNew York's Public Theater USD 1 million in honour of thecompany's founder Joe Papp and late producer-director NoraEphron.
The Oscar-winning star made her Broadway debut in thetheatre's production of Trelawny of the Wells in 1975, and wasmentored by late impresario Papp, who set up the Public in1954, reported New York Post.
A representative for the company announced Ms Streep hasdonated the generous amount in memory of Papp.
"I give this gift in honour of the founder of The PublicTheater, my friend and mentor Joseph Papp, and in remembranceof one of the theater's Board members and greatest supporters,my friend Nora Ephron," Ms Streep said.
