The 62-year-old actress has been nominated for Academy Awards 16 times in her career, but won just twice - in 1979 for Best Supporting Actress for Kramer Vs Kramer and again in 1982 when she picked up Best Actress for Sophie's Choice - though she admits she is always prepared in case she does take home the honour.She said: "I sit there every year with a speech. I've got 14 speeches I've never given. They're all really good.
"One day I'll put them in a book."
Despite her multiple nominations, Meryl - who is tipped to be shortlisted for Best Actress next year thanks to her role in The Iron Lady - is still surprised when she receives recognition.
The star - who was nominated in 2010 for Best Actress for her portrayal of chef Julia Childs in Julie and Julia - added to Empire magazine: "When I was nominated last year I thought, 'I'm so old and they're still doing this. This is amazing.'
"I think the Academy sort of parcels things out; 'You've had enough'. And I get that sense from the aggregate fellowship of my colleagues. You know, 'Sit down!'."

The 'New Year's Eve' actress - who has children James, nine, and two-year-old twins Marion and Tabitha with husband Matthew Broderick - loves the festive season but thinks it is important to be organised so she doesn't become a 'hysterical person'.
She said: "I'm a huge fan of Christmas. Though I will say having three children makes Christmas come around very quickly each year, and there is a lot of preparation.
"I'm a working mom, so I try to set a date by which everything is done, so by 16 December every present has to be wrapped - and that way I can take it easy rather than turn into this hysterical person."
The 46-year-old actress loves the fact her kids still believe in Sana Claus and she liked them to have an 'old fashioned' experience.
She added: "I like to think that the children come downstairs and have this really traditional, old-fashioned experience.
"And they still believe in Santa Claus, which is really nice."
Beyonce Knowles' house is a "no-TV zone" over the festive period. The 'Halo' hitmaker is currently expecting her first child with husband Jay-Z and the couple are both so busy during the year that they prefer to focus on quality family time over Christmas rather than relaxing in front of the TV.Beyonce said: "I will be with family. We are both so busy throughout the year that Christmas is just a time to relax with family and count the many blessings in your life.
"Christmas Day is a no-TV zone. We just like to sit and talk together as a family."
Although she refused to reveal what she will buy her husband, the singer can't wait to purchase lots of gifts for their unborn baby.
She said: "I can't say, it has to be a surprise! Seriously, though, we both keep seeing super-cute stuff for the baby, so I am sure even our presents for each other will involve the baby in some way!
"Also Kelly [Rowland] has been so busy buying gifts for the baby, I think she might forget to buy for me this year! She is always seeing cute gifts for the baby in London."
