MF Husain, the grand old manof Indian art who started his artistic journey by paintingmovie billboards, had more than a passing fascination forBollywood and its beauties.
He was so charmed by the bubbly Madhuri Dixit in HumApke Hai Kaun that he watched the film 67 times and booked anentire theatre to see her comeback movie Aaja Nachle in2007.
His love for Madhuri led him to reinvent his career asa filmmaker. Husain made his Bollywood debut as a directorwith Gaja Gamini starring Madhuri and Shah Rukh Khan in2000.
The Padma Vibhushan immortalised her "quintessentialbeauty" in his paintings and no matter how many Bollywooddivas impressed Husain, Madhuri indisputably remained the'Queen of his heart'.
Other Bollywood beauties also fascinated the artist, who, despite the critical and commercial failure of GajaGamini, ventured into filmmaking for the second time withTabu as his muse in Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities. Thefilm did not suffer a similar fate but remained ignored by thecommon audience.
This however, did not discourage Husain's love for allthings filmy. He continued to adore Bollywood divas and thoughhe did not attempt a third film, rumours never died about hislatest ventures and current muses.
Husain was also hugely impressed with Ram GopalVarma's discovery Urmila Matondkar. Interestingly, more thansensuous, Husain found Urmila very funny. He, in fact, ruednot having painted the Rangeela girl's canvas on the bigscreen as he had plans of a comedy film with her.
Later, Amrita Rao impressed the legendary painterwith her simplicity in Vivah so much that he happened towatch the film nine times.
Not just that, his love for Sooraj Barjatya films andAmrita led him to organize a grand farewell to Vivah at afamous cinema hall in Dubai. Husain had also planned a seriesof paintings showcasing moments of Vivah.
Vidya Balan became the next to flutter his heart. Herraunchy-rustic role in Ishqiya amazed Husain so much that hewas planning to make a film while he was in Qatar.
The latest diva that stole his heart was AnushkaSharma. The painter could not stop raving about her afterwatching her in Band Baaja Baraat. He was so smitten by herbeauty that he conveyed his feelings all the way from Qatarand Anushka was on cloud nine to be counted in the same leagueas Madhuri and Vidya.
