Michael Douglas is Cancer Free

Michael Douglas is Cancer Free
Los Angeles: First, there came a Golden Globe nomination and now there's more good news for Gordon Gekko. Five months after being diagnosed with throat cancer, Wall Street star Michael Douglas has beaten the illness.

In his first interview since finishing chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment, the 66-year-old actor said he is now tumour free.

"The odds are, with the tumour gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer, that I've got it beat," said Douglas in an interview with Matt Lauer on NBC's Today show.

Douglas, a two time Oscar winner, was diagnosed with the stage four cancer shortly after his son, Cameron, was sentenced to prison for drug dealing. The actor was given just a 50% chance of surviving the disease and now looks forward to making the most of the rest of his life.

"It's put a timeline on my life. I'm 66 now. You know, I'm fortunate I've got a mother who's 88. She'll kill me. She may be 87. My father's 94. So, you know, I feel good about those genes. But it's definitely a third act," said the Hollywood star.

Douglas's family: wife of 10 years, Catherine Zeta Jones and children, ten year old Dylan and seven year old Carys, are delighted with the news. There might just be more good news around the corner for them if Michael Douglas he repeats his previous Wall Street win at the Golden Globes this weekend. He is up for Best Supporting Actor for playing a reformed Gordon Gekko in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
