New Delhi:
Michael Douglas - who has starred alongside Danny in several films including Romancing the Stone - has reportedly told his friend to work harder to reconcile his 30-year union to Rhea Perlman after the pair announced their separation in October.
Michael believes Danny, 68, and Rhea, 64, are "perfect" for one another and are mad to give up on their relationship after so many years together and it seems the Twins star is taking his pal's advice.
A source told RadarOnline.com: "When Michael found out Danny and Rhea were splitting up he told Danny he thought he was making a big mistake. Michael loves Rhea and he told Danny he will never find another woman quite like her. They complement each other perfectly and are the best of friends.
"He said he should do whatever it takes to win Rhea back and come to his senses fast before it is too late. It's because of Michael they are talking to each other."
"They are still trying to work things out, and for the moment they are just good friends, but they are heading in the right direction."
Michael, 68, is also well aware of what it feels like to have a marriage fail after he divorced from first wife Diandra Luker in 2000 before marrying his current partner Catherine Zeta-Jones and he is "confident" Danny and Rhea's fate will not be the same.
The insider added: "Michael is well positioned to talk about marriage. He's been with Catherine for 12 years now and he learned a lot from his failed first marriage to Diandra.
"He's confident that Danny and Rhea will settle their differences and get back together."
Danny met his wife in 1970 after she saw him perform in off-Broadway play The Shrinking Bride and the pair have children, Lucy, Grace and Jacob together.
