Michael Shannon To Play Villain In Superman
Los Angeles: Superman has found hisnemsis.

Actor Michael Shannon has been roped in to playvillaneous general Zod in Zack Snyder's reboot of superherofranchise Superman: Man of Steel.

The Oscar-nominated actor will face off againstnewcomer Henry Cavill's Superman in the movie.Shannon is best known for his performance inLeonardo DiCaprio-Kate Winslet starrer Revolutionary Road,the Hollywood Reporter said.

"Zod is not only one of Superman's most formidableenemies, but one of the most significant because he hasinsights into Superman that others don't. Michael is apowerful actor who can project both the intelligence and themalice of the character, making him perfect for the role,"Snyder said.

Zod, like Superman, is from Krypton, where hecommanded its armed forces. The character appeared in both1978's Superman and its 1980 sequel Superman II, where he wasplayed by actor Terence Stamp.

The developing cast of Man of Steel also includes AmyAdams as Superman's love interest Lois Lane, and Diane Laneand Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent.Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan andDeborah Snyder are the producers of the film, which will bedistributed worldwide by Warners.The screenplay is being written by David S Goyer basedon a story by Goyer and Nolan.
