London:
Teen pop star Miley Cyrus has lent her support behind a campaign to block a housing development in Australia which threatens to change the face of a picturesque coastal area.
Cyrus, 18, is dating Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth who spent much of his childhood in Phillip Island in Victoria, Contactmusic reported.
She took her Twitter account and compares the fight to 1992 animated film 'FernGully: The Last Rainforest' and urges fans to spread the word about the Phillip Island situation.
"Phillip Island is such a magical place, it would be a shame to see it change. Real life Fern Gully," she posted.
Environmental activists are also fighting plans to build a housing estate on 23 acres of coastal farmland in the township of Ventnor, and Cyrus has now given her backing to the campaign.
