Mixed bag for Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, Part I

Mixed bag for Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, Part I
New Delhi: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the first in the Harry Potter finale movies, is finally out and so are the reviews. The film had its worldwide premiere in London on Friday.

It's a mixed bag but the consensus is that it is the scariest of Harry Potter films.

According to some reviews on The Times and Guardian, it is too long to digest, there is lot of violence, bit of sexual tension and visually appealing but lacking the wit, the humour and the charm of the previous movies.

Directed by David Yates, the film depicts the last stand of Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, against his nemesis The Dark Lord Voldemort, played by Ralph Fiennes.

There's praise for stunning visuals and most agree that it is the scariest Potter film till date.

A two and a half hour movie, The Times has rated it 3 out of 5 while The Gaurdian gives it 2 amidst complaints about the film's length. The Guardian calls it "Prolonged Death Rattle" which is "largely indistinguishable from the six Potter movies preceding it", with the actors behaving like props, rather than characters.

Kate Muir of The Times calls the movie a "bloated finale" and wonders if a Dementor has sucked out the joy of this franchise.

The Guardian too says Potter's wit and humour is missing and is branded 'very violent'. Muir calls one of the torture scenes as "the wizard equivalent of waterboarding".

Will the reviews chase the audiences away, or Potter will cast his spell anyway? We'll know soon.
