Actress Julianne Moore has written abook, My Mom is a Foreigner, to help children understanddifferent nationalities.
The 51-year-old, who emigrated to America from Scotlandwhen she was 10 years old, said her friends picked up on hermother because of her accent, reported Contactmusic.
"My mother kept her Scots accent but I didn't noticebecause I heard her voice every day. When I was little, I'dbring people home and they'd say, 'Why does your mom talk sofunny?' I couldn't quite hear it. It was just how my motherspoke.
"I know lots of women who have mums from Poland, Russiaor Puerto Rico - somewhere that was considered different. Thisbook is all about what it's like to be the first generation ina new country.
"It's really about children talking about what it is tohave a parent from another country and all of the things thatyou grow up with and things that are difficult for you, likelanguage differences," Moore said.
