More trouble for Big B's Aarakshan

More trouble for Big B's Aarakshan
New Delhi: Maharashtra Minister and OBC leader Chhagan Bhujbal has opposed Amitabh Bachchan's soon-to-release film Aarakshan. He said opposition to such a film is obvious.

Aarakshan, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles is a socio-political drama based on caste-based reservations in government jobs and educational institutions.

Bhujbal said his outfit Samata Parishad will oppose the film as such movies vitiate social balance.

He further said that the film should not be released unless it is shown to Pro-reservation leaders.

Director Prakash Jha on opposition to the film in Maharashtra said: "We have screened the movie to the statutory body for this and they have cleared it ... If there is a demand for special screening , it has to reach me

On being asked about the reservation issue, Big B said:  "My personal opinion on reservation - never been brought up to believe in caste, creed or the difference they bring in."

The actor, who is in Kolkata for the film's promotion further said:  "I was given the name Bachchan , because when I was being admitted to school, my father did not mention my surname Srivastava , so that my caste would not be known , and instead gave me his pen name 'Bachchan' ."

Earlier, RPI leader Ramdas Athawale also said his party would oppose Prakash Jha's upcoming flick if its contents are detrimental to the interest of Dalits.

"We will oppose the film (Aarakshan) if its contents are against Dalits and try to paint the upper-castes in good light," Athawale told reporters.

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes had recently dubbed 'Aarkashan', to be released on August 12, as "anti-Dalit".  (With PTI inputs)
