Mumbai:
The remake of 1973 hit film Zanjeer has run into more rough weather. Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan, who wrote the original film, had not given their blessing to the remake and now Mr Akhtar has reportedly hired a legal team to handle the matter.
Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who starred in the original Zanjeer, has said that he takes it as a compliment that the movie is getting made again, but Mr Akhtar and Mr Khan, who were known as Sailim-Javed when they were writing together, did not feel the same way.
They are upset with producer Amit Mehra, son of late producer Prakash Mehra, for trying to remake their script without a go ahead from them.
"We have hired a legal team to deal with the copy right issue of Zanjeer. Amit Mehra had come to me and Salim for the permission to remake the blockbuster. We suggested sitting across the table and sorting out the matter professionally however Amit kept on vacillating and later went to the media claiming he has got the clearance from us and he is going to start shooting soon. So, we had no choice but to take legal action for royalty for the copyright," Javed Akhtar was quoted.
The new Zanjeer, which is being directed by Apoorva Lakhia of Shootout At Lokhandwala fame, marks the Bollywood debut of Ram Charan Teja, son of Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi.
The stars have already begun shooting for the film.
The film also stars Priyanka Chopra, who will recreate the role originally played by Jaya Bachchan, and has been reportedly offered a whopping Rs 9 cr for the movie.
Big B was starred opposite wife Jaya Bachchan in the original film along with yesteryear actors Pran, Ajit and Bindu.
Actress Mahie Gill has been roped in to play Bindu's famous character, Mona Darling, in the remake.
