Veteran actor Tabassum died at the age of 78 last week. A prayer meet, in her memory, was held in Mumbai on Monday evening. Members of the film fraternity united to pay their final respects to the veteran actor. Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee, filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan, actress Delnaaz Irani, comedian Johnny Lever, Jaaved Jaffrey, Neil Nitin Mukesh along with his father and veteran singer Nitin Mukesh were among the celebs that were pictured at the prayer meet. Tabassum died after suffering a cardiac arrest, her son Hoshang Govil said on Saturday. Hoshang Govil said his mother had been admitted to a hospital here for the past few days, news agency PTI reported.

Tabassum began her career as a child artiste in the Hindi film industry. The actress, who was famously called "Baby Tabassum" during the initial stages of her career, first starred in the 1947 film Nargis. She starred in films like Mera Suhaag (1947), Manjhdhar (1947) and Bari Behen (1949).

In the later years, Tabassum featured in films such as Sargam, Sangram, Deedar and Baiju Bawra. She also had a brief role in the 1960 historical drama Mughal-e-Azam, starring Prithviraj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Madhubala.

Tabassum famously hosted Indian TV's first chat show titled Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan. She hosted the show from 1972 to 1993. She made her debut as a director with the 1985 film Tum Par Hum Qurban. Tabassum's last onscreen appearance was in the 1990 film Swarg, starring Rajesh Khanna and Govinda.
