For Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh's many fans, today is the day they have lived for. A cursory glance at Twitter reveals this. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh stars in and as MSG: The Messenger which opens today amid high alert and increased security in Haryana and Chandigarh. The film, previously called MSG: Messenger of God, is not showing in Punjab and Uttarakhand, which have banned it. It was green-lit by the Censor Board after much controversy and a regime change, with Censor chief Leela Samson and nine Board members resigning allegedly over political interference over clearing the film.
Early reviews have panned the film, describing it variously as 'so bad it's good,' 'not a movie,' 'sexist, xenophobic, homophobic' and 'would make Sajid Khan blush.'
However, devoted fans of the Harley-riding Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh - who is the star, director and producer of MSG - are beside themselves on Twitter:
