New Delhi: Shashi Kapoor, Hindi cinema's affable star with the infectious smile, turned 74 today.
Among those who remembered the now wheelchair bound star on Twitter today is Amitabh Bachchan.
"Shashi ji's birthday today .. spent some of the most wonderful moments in films we did together .. good health and happiness to him," Amitabh Bachchan posted on Twitter.
Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor have played leading roles in some cherished Hindi films such as Deewar, Trishul (with Sanjeev Kumar), Namak Halaal and Silsila.
In 2010, Amitabh Bachchan was anguished at seeing Shashi Kapoor confined to a wheelchair. "Seeing him confined to a wheel chair, was something I could never associate with Shashi ji," he posted on his blog.
It was the year Shashi Kapoor received the 55th Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr Bachchan was supposed to present the award to him but could not attend. Like many of Shashi Kapoor's fans across the world, Amitabh Bachchan was shocked when he saw pictures of the event. "Shashi Kapoor, that handsome gentle man. A smile on his face forever. A considerate calling on each meeting, now in this condition? Never," Amitabh Bachchan had said then.
On Twitter today, another of Mr Kapoor's co-actors remembered him. Shabana Azmi, Mr Kapoor's co-star in films like Atithee and Junoon, today posted: "Shashi Kapoor earned from film and gave bc to the Film Industry He produced 36 Chowringhee LaneJunoonVijetaKalyug n was d best Producer."

Meanwhile, Mr Kapoor's fans continue to tweet, wishing him well and remembering his immortal line from Deewar, "Mere paas maa hain."
