The Maharashtra government announced here today that music composer Anandji Shah of Kalyanji-Anandji fame will be awarded the Lata Mangeshkar Award 2012-13 for his contribution to music.
The award given away every year on September 28, on the occassion of Lata Mangeshkar's birthday, comprises a cashprize of Rs 5 lakh, a citation and a memento. Anandji's name was recommended by a committee comprising music composers like Khayyam and Ashok Patki, poet N D Mahanor and cultural affairs director Ashutosh Ghorpade.
Meanwhile, the Natvarya Prabhakar Panshikar Award for lifetime achievement in theatre will be presented to senioractor Atmaram Bhende. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a citation and a memento.
Bhende has been associated with Marathi, Hindi and English theatre for more than six decades as an actor, director and producer.Dates of the award ceremony will be announced soon, a statement issued by the chief minister's office said.
