Kolkata: Filmmaker Muzaffar Ali said that 'intolerance' has existed ever since and people should spread love instead of retaliating.
"Intolerance is not a sporadic thing. It is a big issue. We need to go deep into the whole ethos of intolerance and look into the symptoms and realise why it is growing. Intolerance has always been there. We have inherited it from our colonial masters," said Muzaffar sahab.
"In fact, our democracy is based on intolerance, dividing people on the basis of religion, caste and community. Everybody prefers to put a certain kind of people together and become their leader rather than becoming the leader of an idea or the nation," he added.
Several filmmakers and authors have returned their awards to protest against 'intolerance.' However Muzaffar sahab said that retaliation is not a solution.(Also Read: Subhash Ghai Describes 'Intolerance' as a 'Political Farce')
"We need to suggest creative solutions. If people retaliate, then there will be no end to it. We need to spread the message of love," he said.
