Foster has stood by Gibson through his recent battleswith former lover Oksana Grigorieva after he was accused ofdomestic abuse and she has no qualms about supporting herfriend.
"I know him and I love him and I love him for hiscomplexities. I don't think there are many actors who caninhabit the lightness we needed for the movie, but who canalso really understand struggle. And because of theconversations we've been having for 15 years about struggle."I can't defend him but when you love somebody andthey are struggling you don't run in the opposite direction,"she said.
