Even as her fans continue to wonder why no movies of their favourite star have released in recent times, actress Namitha seems to have turned an entrepreneur.
"I'm a businesswoman now! I was in Mumbai all these days as I have started a construction company called Balaji Developers. So, it's been hectic. I have always wanted to start a company of my own. It all started last year, when I thought of establishing my company in a big way. In fact, we have started constructing a few villas in Mumbai. It's a different experience altogether and I'm enjoying the change."
It's not just villas that Namitha constructs. She also designs jewellery. But then, that is just for her family and friends. She says: "That's another hobby, I have. I love jewellery. So, whenever I get time, I design for myself or my family. But I don't have any plans of starting a brand."
However, the actress says that she has not quit films and that she will be back with good films. "I can never leave the film industry. I have always loved watching and working in films. So, this business cannot take me away from my passion which is films. I'm presently working in quite a few Tamil films and most of them are heroine-oriented. I do a few action sequences in a few of them," she says.
For Namitha, item numbers are a big 'no-no'. She doesn't mind doing the second lead's role but the item tag annoys her, she says. "I have never done an item song in my film career. It can tag me."
No wonder then that the actress is upset with directors who approach her only to do item songs. "I really think that I have to do a character role. So, the directors have to understand that I'm not an actress for item songs."
