Jodhpur:
Indian police arrested an event manager for excessive use of fireworks at an extravagant party hosted by supermodel Naomi Campbell in the desert city of Jodhpur, officials said on Friday.
Mumbai-based P.K. Pareek was held on charges of "noise pollution" at Campbell's star-studded party held to mark the 50th birthday of her billionaire Russian boyfriend Vladimir Doronin at a 15th-century fort.
"He was arrested on Thursday and released on bail today," city police commissioner Bhupendra Kumar Dak told AFP in Jodhpur, the second largest city in the northern Indian state of Rajasthan.
Dak said the man was detained when local residents complained of excessive noise from the fireworks at the celebrations in Mehrangarh Fort on Wednesday.
The commissioner said the party organisers had been allowed to use firecrackers and loud music until 10:00 pm and that police were sent to the fort around midnight when residents complained of excessive noise.
"Till late at night there was (the) loud sound of music from the fort and the huge explosions of fireworks gave us mental stress," said Kamlash Prohit, who lives near the complex which dominates Jodhpur.
Media reports said some 200 guests, including the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, were at the fort, where Diana Ross was flown in for a live performance.
Campbell, 42, has been dating Doronin since 2008 and the couple currently live together in Moscow.
They have a record of throwing elaborate parties for each other, with Doronin having hosted a major bash for Campbell's 40th birthday on the French Riviera.
