Karachi: Bollywood's official foray across the border may have been a recent occurrence but despite the over 40-year ban, Indian cinema, its icons, its music and dance have always remained an integral part of life in Pakistan. From being the mainstay of every Pakistani wedding to a generic component of country's street lingo and more recently Pakistan's flourishing lawn industry; Bollywood's impact across the border appears to be everywhere.

Rockstar actress, Nargis Fakhri is the face of Elan Lawn's Spring/Summer 2013 collection. The promotional campaign, for the soon to be launched range of fine cotton fabrics, was shot in Bangkok.

"When I saw their prior catalogue, I said yes right away", explains Nargis. "The clothes were absolutely beautiful which made it exciting to wear, the location was stunning and the group was a fun bunch so I'd have to say it was a dream job. I'm very happy it all came together", she adds.

Among the collection "there were a few I really loved", says Nargis who lists the animal print inspired 'Wild Safari' and the "beautiful" Bleu De Chine 'with a Grecian border' to be her favourites.

Despite the similarities, Nargis believes fashion sensibilities in India and Pakistan are distinctly individual. "I can't point my finger on it, but there is a difference", she says.

While Indian designers have long had a base across the border, designers from Pakistan have only recently entered the Indian market. "Of course" designer wear from Pakistan "would do well in India", believes Nargis. And "I don't see why not. Beautiful clothing, can any woman resist...no way!" she adds.

Nargis believes, artistic exchanges between India and Pakistan are important to build people to people contact between the two countries." One of the most important things in life is exchanging ideas and using other influences from all over to develop creativity and of course brings people together and creates an understanding of one and other", believes Nargis

"I have never been to Pakistan" says Nargis, who's next; Madras Cafe is due to release in August. "But lets see what the future holds", she adds.
