Los Angeles:
Natalie Portman at the Oscars this year has fetched $50,000at an auction.
The red polka dot haute couture creation, designed byChristian Dior in 1954, was borrowed by the 30-year-old starfrom fashion dealer Rare Vintage.
Shortly after the award ceremony, the vendor put the size4 gown on sale via the website 1stdibs.com and it was snappedup by an unknown British couture collector.
Her look was created by top stylist Kate Young, who worksclosely with Rare Vintage owner Juliana Carione.
"Natalie's dress is amazing. It's an actual 1954 springcouture dress. She was actually going to wear another dressbut then I got a call from the woman at Rare Vintage and shewas like, 'You should see this dress for Natalie'."So we went and she put it on, and it needed zeroalterations, and Natalie was like, "This was meant to be,wasn't it?" And I said, 'I guess it was'."
Dior, who died in 1957, was famous for inventing whatbecame known as the New Look in 1947, and Portman's dress istypical of that.
