Singer Sukhwinder Singh on Tuesday won the National Film Award in the Best Playback Singer (Male) category for the song Bismil from Haider. He's happy as he feels the track truly deserved the honour.
"It's an amazing feeling. Vishal Bhardwaj is a fabulous person and a good musician. Bismil deserves this appreciation and Gulzar has put in a beautiful soul in the track with his words," the singer, who is known for his mesmerising and powerful voice, told IANS.
"Singing for this song was an absolute pleasure. I am extremely happy that I got a National Award for this song and this film."
Sudesh Adhana also won the Best Choreographer Award for Bismil.
Haider features Shahid Kapur, Tabu and Kay Kay Menon among others, and was inspired by William Shakespeare's classic tragedy Hamlet.
