A Hindi adaptation of author Neil Gaiman's cult graphic novel series The Sandman is coming to Audible, the Amazon-owned producer of audio content. The star-studded cast will be led by Tabu, Manoj Bajpayee, Vijay Varma and Adarsh Gourav, the makers said in a statement today. The English adaptation on Audible is in its second season. The Sandman series, created by Neil Gaiman with artists Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Comics, features The Endless, seven dysfunctional siblings who embody the powerful forces that give them each their names – Death, Dream, Destruction, Delirium, Despair, Destiny and Desire. Dream, also called Morpheus, is the titular Sandman and protagonist of the series.
In Audible's Hindi edition of The Sandman, Vijay Varma voices Dream, who is trapped for 70 years by an occultist before breaking free. Tabu will play the narrator and Manoj Bajpayee has been cast as Doctor Destiny, the supervillain who has taken over Dream's realm. Kubbra Sait and Sushant Divgikar voice Death and Desire, two of The Endless. Tillotama Shome and Neeraj Kabi play Greek muse of epic poetry Calliope and Lucifer, lord of Hell. The White Tiger star Adarsh Gourav is cast as John Constantine, one of the several DC Comics characters to appear in the Sandman books.
"Join me as I guide you into The Dreaming, along with a powerhouse ensemble cast in The Audible Original The Sandman, in Hindi," Tabu wrote in an Instagram post.
The English Audible adaptation stars James McAvoy as Dream, Kat Dennings as Death, Riz Ahmed as The Corinthian, Michael Sheen as Lucifer and Taron Egerton as John Constantine. Neil Gaiman is The Narrator while the follow-up second season adds David Tennant as Loki, Jeffrey Wright as Destiny and Rege-Jean Page as Orpheus, among others.
A TV series of The Sandman is also coming up with Tom Sturridge as Dream and Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer. Lucifer is also the main character of a hugely popular spin-off series on Netflix, called Lucifer, with Tom Ellis cast in the title character of the lord of Hell who moves to Los Angeles, opens a nightclub and helps the police solve crimes.
The Sandman was originally published as comic books between 1989 and 1996, and are now available in a series of 10 collected editions
