Rajkummar Rao's new film Newton has shown great progress at the box office over the weekend and continued to charm the cine-goers even on Monday. Newton's box office score for Monday is higher than that of its opening day figures, reported trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The political drama had opened across 430 screens on Friday and positive word of mouth has added 450 new shows to the list, reported Mr Adarsh. In separate tweets, Mr Adarsh wrote: "Newton super-strong word of mouth has translated into TERRIFIC biz... Over 450 shows increased across multiplexes over weekend Mon," and "Newton is ROCKING... Mon bigger than Fri... Fri 96 lakhs, Sat 2.52 cr, Sun 3.42 cr, Mon 1.31 cr. Total: Rs 8.21 cr."
Here's Newton's box office performance as evaluated in four days.
Directed by Amit V Masurkar, Newton is on its way to wide spread glory. Rajkummar Rao features as a polling agent in the movie while Pankaj Tripathi stars as an army officer. Of the celebrities, who have watched and loved Newton, Anil Kapoor is one of the recent ones to have tweeted about it: "Floored by all the impeccable performances in Newton," he posted on Tuesday.
Rajkummar Rao's film has also been selected as India's official entry for the Oscars. Sharing his experience of being part of Newton, he told NDTV.com: "I genuinely liked the script. It spoke about something relevant, and something that is a new world for me. And Newton as a character was somebody so idealistic, with so much honestly and sincerity that I could relate to his passion. All he wanted to do was change a few things in his own world."
On Friday, Newton clashed with Shraddha Kapoor's Haseena Parkar and Sanjay Dutt's Bhoomi.
