New Delhi: Rajkummar Rao's latest film Newton has had a 'wonderful' first week, reported trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The Amit V Masurkar-directed film maintained a 'steady' trend throughout the week and has managed to earn Rs 11.83 crore at the box office so far, according to Mr Adarsh. "#Newton had a WONDERFUL Week 1... The SUPER growth over the weekend and STEADY trending on weekdays helped put up a GOOD total," he tweeted. Newton narrates the story of a rookie government clerk, who is appointed to conduct free and fair elections in a Naxal-controlled town in Chhattisgarh. Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Raghubir Yadav, Sanjay Mishra and Hardik Meriya also play pivotal roles in the film.

Newton opened to positive reviews on September 22. The film has been selected as India's official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards.
In an interview with news agency PTI, Rajkummar Rao said that he hopes Newton brings him 'international recognition.'
"I think I am doing something different every time and I want to grow with every film. I hope with Newton, I get more international recognition. It is one of the most important films of my career. It was made with a lot of honesty," PTI quoted the Trapped actor as saying.
In his review for NDTV, film critic Raja Sen said that Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi provide 'terrific performances' in the film.
"Amit Masurkar's Newton is a dry and intriguing look at an India we don't usually see - and shows us how hard it is to take elections seriously," wrote Mr Sen.
Newton released in theatres along with Sanjay Dutt's Bhoomi and Shraddha Kapoor's Haseena Parkar. This week the film will face completion with Judwaa 2, starring Varun Dhawan, Taapsee Pannu and Jacqueline Fernandez.
