Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth in Railway Man

London: Oscar-winners Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth will play husband and wife in The Railway Man, about aman's struggle to overcome his World War II experiences.

Initially, Rachel Weisz was to play Firth's wife but she was forced to leave the project as she was required to shootsome more scenes in The Bourne Legacy and Oz: The Great and Powerful, the Variety reported.

Directed by Jonathan Teplitzy, the film will begin shooting in April.

The film is based on Eric Lomax's autobiography about his horrific experiences as a Japanese prisoner in World War II,and his remarkable reconciliation with one of his captors 30 years later.

Lomax's wife Patti, to be played by Kidman, played an important role by convincing her husband to face up thelongstanding psychological problems caused while he was captured by the Japanese officers.

She brings her husband face to face with one of the Japanese officers who had tortured him.

Jeremy Irvine of War Horse fame plays the younger Lomax in the WWII scenes.

The Railway Man will shoot in Scotland with Firth and Kidman, before moving to Australia's Gold Coast for the WWII section.
