Nikhat Kazmi, film critic, dies
New Delhi: Nikhat Kazmi, noted film critic, died this morning at 53. She was suffering from breast cancer. She is survived by her son Rehaan, 26.

Her illness did not keep her away from catching up on movies - she used to come in a wheelchair to watch them - and continued to give her feedback to her readers.

Just last Friday, Nikhat Kazmi posted her last review for Ghost - giving it a single star. "Come on Bollywood, you can do better... even when it comes to sending those chills down the spine," she wrote.

Ms Kazmi wrote on films for nearly 25years. She had also written books on Bollywood - Ire in the Soul: Bollywood's Angry Years (1996) and The Dream Merchants of Bollywood (1998). She also spearheaded compilations like the Times Guide to Hollywood Blockbusters and Times Movie Guide (2007).

Ms Kazmi had also written a play called If Shakespeare was a gun. She reviewed films for the newspaper Times of India.

The poignancy of her death on a Friday, the day critics most look forward to, was almost instantly captured on Twitter, by her readers and stars.

"Was truly shocked to hear about the untimely death of nikhat kazmi...the TOI critic of several years...prayers and thoughts with her family," Karan Johar posted.

"Tragic news. Extremely sad to know about the demise of Nikhat Kazmi, one of the most persistent film critics. Am sure wherever you are, it'll be a 5 star rating, RIP. May God give strength to your loved ones, Akshay Kumar posted on Twitter.

"The 1st ever review I read of Refugee, my 1st film, was by Nikhat Kazmi. She always pointed out the road to improvement to me. RIP ma'am," wrote Abhishek Bachchan.

"After people die, they become stars. Nikhat Kazmi just became four and a half," many of her readers posted on social networks.
