Mumbai:
After years of will they-won't they, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan finally put speculation to rest by announcing October 16, 2012 as their wedding date. Or did they? Fresh rumours of will they-won't they now postpone the wedding to December.
And despite a denial from Saif's mother Sharmila Tagore, NDTV can confirm that the wedding will take place later. "No marriage till the end of the year," Kareena Kapoor told us in February, when Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu was releasing.
There's been much media comment lately on how Kareena, normally not shy, has suddenly been struck dumb when questioned about her wedding plans. Why all the mystery?Could her next film Heroine have anything to do with it? The Madhur Bhandarkar-directed film began on a bitter note with original Heroine Aishwarya Rai Bachchan being dropped from the project after she announced her pregnancy. Perhaps Kareena's taking no chances with a film that could make her a critic's darling. Heroine is up for release on September 21, which also happens to be Kareena's birthday.
And consider reports of producers shying away from signing Kareena up for films like Sanjay Leela Bhansali's desi Romeo Juliet story, Ram Leela, Rohit Shetty's Chennai Express co-starring SRK, and Dharma Productions' next film featuring Imran Khan. Put that together with Mr Bhansali's scathing comment about how "no married heroine" will play his Juliet, and it all adds up.
A December wedding makes sense, for Kareena. She could then tie up all loose career ends and settle down to happily being Saif's begum.
