It's not about age and live and let live – these were the words of wisdom from Neetu Kapoor and Anil Kapoor on modern parenting, specifically on the subject of their children getting married. The actors co-star in this week's release Jugjugg Jeeyo, a light-hearted take on the serious themes of divorce and the complexities of marital life. Three of Jugjugg Jeeyo's stars - Neetu Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Varun Dhawan – spoke to NDTV about their film and much more. We asked the two older actors for their thoughts as parents on marriage expectations of children. Anil Kapoor, whose daughters Sonam and Rhea are married and whose son Harsh Varrdhan is not, said he's never pressured his children. "I've never been into that kind of situation that 'this is the way it should be'… whatever makes them happy, makes me happy. I think that's the way, live and let live," he said.
Neetu Kapoor said that there is no right age to get married but it's important to find the right person. "I think nowadays parents are not like that. You have to let them be, when they are ready to get married they will. When the right time comes, the right person comes. You can't be pushed. Age is not the problem, the problem is the right person. You have to feel comfortable that ok, this is the one, I'm going to spend my life with this person," she told NDTV. Ms Kapoor's son Ranbir married Alia Bhatt earlier this year. Her daughter Riddhima has been married many years.
Varun Dhawan was the proof Neetu Kapoor needed – "Like he knew he had to get married to Natasha, he knew his mind," she told NDTV. Varun and designer Natasha Dalal married in January 2021. "Natasha and me were friends and she herself is such an independent person, she does her own work, she's not from this line and she does her own thing. She doesn't need me to complete her in that sense. We support each other, we are there for each other but she didn't need to be married," Varun said.
As for his parents, filmmaker David Dhawan and Karuna, they just wanted a big fat Bollywood wedding for their son – which COVID ruined. "My parents wanted me to do a big wedding which I could not do," Varun Dhawan told NDTV.
Jugjugg Jeeyo also stars Kiara Advani and is out this Friday.
