Monica Bedi will be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's debut TV show Saraswatichandra.

Actress Monica Bedi, who plays avamp in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's debut TV showSaraswatichandra, was not sceptical about doing a negativerole and says she does not fear being typecast on the smallscreen.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's show is based on the popular Gujarati novelSaraswatichandra by Govardhanram Madhavaram Tripathi. It isset in the early 20th century and revolves around two Gujaratifamilies.
"I don't fear getting typecast. I am not scared ofbeing called the vamp of small screen. As this is not thetypical vamp character. It is a grey shade... It is notnegative completely. If we look at what SRK did in Baazigar,Kajol did in Gupt.. It's the biggest of artists who didnegative characters... It adds to your career," Monica toldPTI in an interview.
"I am not worried that I would be looked in a negativeway. I think today audience is far more intelligent tounderstand that this is a character and that we are justworking," she said.
Considering she is not married and plays a role ofa stepmother in the soap, Monica said, "I was not sceptical totake a role of a stepmother. This role is very interesting. Iam in love with this character. There is lot of scope foracting and to do something different. I couldn't see myselfdoing typical sweet heroine kind of a role."
The 35-year-old feels negative characters are ofutmost importance as they bring in a juicy element."Somewhere I feel negative characters are quiteinteresting to play on screen. As they are the ones who bringtwists and turns in the story," she said.
Talking about her role, Monica says, "She is a verysmart girl. She is powerful and an intelligent lady. Herbackground is that she is a dancer and how she enters the lifeof this multi billionaire and marries him, tries to claim theproperty. She is possessive and caring towards her family."
"A grey shade is there... It is not a typical villaincharacter with vampish looks. She is an elegant lady," Monicasaid.
The show features popular TV actors Gautam Rode andJennifer Winget in lead, apart from Monica and Chetan Pandit.It went on air yesterday on Star Plus channel. Theshow will be aired at 7.30 pm from Monday to Friday.
