Highlights

  • This week has yielded mixed results at the box office. While Akshay Kumar’s home production Oh My God has managed to come out as a surprise hit, Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal has flopped miserably.
  • Akshay Kumar’s film from his new banner was publicised well and has managed to get a weekend collection of around Rs 16 crore and 47 lakh (Friday Rs 4.7 crore, Saturday Rs 4.5 crore and Saturday Rs 6.95 crore). Priyadarshan’s KDM earned only Rs 4.25 crore in its opening weekend. Last week’s release Heroine finished the first week at Rs 32.88 crore and the second weekend made around Rs 2.25 crore, bringing the total to around Rs 35.13 crore in its first 10 days.
  • Trade analyst Atul Mohan states, “For the kind of numbers that OMG has got being a Paresh Rawal starrer is quite commendable. I am very optimistic that the film will do very well in the entire week, thanks to October 2 being a holiday. Everyone will make money on the film. As far as Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal is concerned, it is very disappointing and OMG has completely overshadowed the film.”
  • Trade expert Amod Mehra points out, “OMG had a quiet opening and it got a little better on Saturday. However, it did a good Sunday. The makers have sold the film to distributor Ponty Chadha at a high price. Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal is a disaster. Who is interested in this kind of a subject? Heroine on the other hand is extremely bad in its second weekend.”
