The Indian mission is gearing up to celebrate India's 70th Independence Day at the UN with the cultural extravaganza featuring Rahman, who is the second Indian artiste after MS Subbulakshmi to perform at the UN.
Through his performance, Rahman will pay homage to Subbulakshmi, the first musician ever to be awarded India's highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna. Rahman's tribute to MS Subbulakshmi also coincides with the completion of 50 years of her own performance in the UN General Assembly hall.
