A still from The High Sun.
Los Angeles:
Croatia has selected The High Sun directed by Dalibor Matanic as the official entry in the Best Foreign Language category of Oscars, said The Hollywood Reporter. A 15 member committee drawn by Filmmakers Association of Croatia, including actors, directors, producers, editors and others nominated the film. The plot of The High Sun revolves around three love stories set in three consecutive decades in two neighbouring villages. The movie, starring starring Goran Markovic and Tihana Lazovic, also premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, earlier this year, in the Un Certain Regard, where it also won the jury prize.
The High Sun won Mr Matanic the Best Director award, amog others at last month's Pula Film Festival.
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan has selected Yermek Tursunov's Stranger as its official entry. The film marks Mr Tursunov's sixth feature film that has made it to the Oscar race. His Kelin made it to the shortlist in 2010 and Shal was nominated in 2013. (Also Read: Bollywood's Oscar Race Begins. All Eyes on Amol Palekar)
