Oscars 2013: Argo wins Best Picture, Daniel Day-Lewis makes history

Oscars 2013: Argo wins Best Picture, Daniel Day-Lewis makes history
Ben Affleck's Argo won the Best Film while Daniel Day-Lewis notched up the most Best Actor wins ever with his third Oscar for Lincoln
New Delhi: It was a year of big upsets at the Oscars this year with Steven Spielberg's Lincoln winning just two of its 12 nominations. Argo, directed by Ben Affleck, won Best Picture. Ang Lee won Best Director for Life Of Pi, beating Steven Spielberg for a second time - he won in 2006 for Brokeback Mountain, the year Spielberg was nominated for Munich. Life Of Pi led the Oscar race with four wins out of 11 nominations, including awards for cinematography, visual effects and original score in addition to directing.

However, Lincoln took comfort in the fact that history was made by Daniel Day-Lewis who notched up the most Best Actor wins ever with his third Oscar for Lincoln.

Argo and Les Miserables won three awards each. Les Miserables star Anne Hathaway won Best Supporting Actress for playing starving prostitute Fantine.

Jennifer Lawrence won Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook, beating Jessica Chastain who was nominated for Zero Dark Thirty.

Django Unchained won two Oscars - Best Supporting Actor for Christoph Waltz who won his second Oscar, and Best Original Screenplay for Quentin Tarantino. Christoph Waltz has won both times he has been nominated, which gives him a 100% strike rate at the Oscars.

Adele won Best original Song for Skyfall, beating India's Bombay Jayashri who was nominated for Life Of Pi.
