Christoph Waltz was awarded Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars.
The 56-year-old Django Unchained star - who beat off stiff competition from his fellow nominees Alan Arkin, Robert De Niro, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Tommy Lee Jones - was awarded for his performance as a refined bounty hunter in the outlandish slavery movie and expressed his "unlimited gratitude" to the movie's director Quentin Tarantino at the 85th annual ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
Accepting his award from actress Octavia Spencer, the Austrian-German actor also offered his respect to his rivals.
He said: "We participated in a hero's journey, the hero here being Quentin."
The actor was originally considered to be the underdog but quickly became the hot favourite heading into the night after winning the prize at both the Golden Globes and BAFTAs earlier this month.
Christoph previously took home the same award in 2010 for his role in the movie Inglorious Bastards.Every nominee in this category had won at least one Oscar previously.
This year's ceremony was hosted by funnyman Seth MacFarlane.
