There was Ellen's star-studded selfie last year, and there was Neil Patrick Harris's underwear moment this year. Midway through, when the Oscar host was announced missing, you knew there was a much-needed gag coming up. What it turned out to be was a pretty masterly spoof of Michael Keaton's legendary (yes NPH, we said legendary) walk through Times Square in his unmentionables for Birdman. (Also Read: Neil Patrick Harris, Host. Was he Legendary?)
Here's what happened. After being caught changing out of his tux in what was presumably his green room, NPH was 'forced' to navigate the passageways backstage at the Dolby Theatre in nothing but his underthings, 'ambushed' by autograph-seekers and photo-takers just as Mr Keaton is in Birdman. Right on to stage and in front of the madly-clapping audience - Michael Keaton right in front - to announce, "acting is a noble profession."

Break the internet? That, it might not have done but it certainly was the moment in an otherwise tame Oscar show.
Here's Michael Keaton's original jaunt through Times Square.
