Director Alejandro G. Inarritu picked up the Best Director trophy for The Revenant at the 88th Academy Awards on February 28.
This is Mr Inarritu's second consecutive win after last year's Birdman.
Other nominated in the category were Adam McKay for The Big Short, George Miller for Mad Max: Fury Road, Lenny Abrahamson for Room and Tom McCarthy for Spotlight.
Actor Leonardo DiCaprio is also vying for the Best Actor Oscar for The Revenant.
