Pak singer Adnan Sami says he's applied for visa extension
The singer had met MNS Chitrapat Karmachari Sena leader Amey Khopkar last Saturday seeking their cooperation on the matter
Pakistani singer Adnan Sami, who was issued a notice by Mumbai Police for an expired visa, said today that he has applied for an extension to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Mr Sami, who's visa expired on October 6, said in a statement: "As per standard rules, I had made an application for extension of my visa to the concerned department of the Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi on 14th September 2013. Until the visa extension is granted by the MHA in New Delhi, I have to be in India as I cannot leave. The length of the process of granting visa extensions is at the discretion of the MHA issuing department. The Mumbai Police is very much aware of my situation & are fully informed of this."

Mr Sami, 44, was given seven days by the police to explain his reasons for overstaying.

The expiry of the singer's visa came to light recently during the hearing of a court case between Mr Sami and his former wife Sabah Galadari over possession of a duplex flat in a Lokhandwala complex.

Following this, the film wing of Raj Thackeray-led MNS had demanded that Mr Sami be deported.

The singer had met MNS Chitrapat Karmachari Sena leader Amey Khopkar last Saturday seeking their cooperation on the matter. "Sami met us at our office seeking our cooperation. We told him to leave the country as his visa has expired," Mr Khopkar had said.
