Mumbai:
If you have noticed a new quality to controversial music composer Pritam's songs in Mausam, it's because of the film's director Pankaj Kapoor. Kapoor, the versatile actor who turns director with the Sonam Kapoor-Shahid Kapoor starrer, is quite the musician too.
While no one was willing to go on record about Kapoor's involvement with the music score, so vast is Kapoor's contribution that, according to sources, he could get credit as a co-composer.
A source said, "Pritam has done the entire score for the film. But Pankaj's contribution is immense. Like most outstanding filmmakers from Raj Kapoor to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Pankaj is also a musician He can sing and compose songs."
Kapoor acknowledged that he had contributed to Mausam's music but was opposed to the idea of featuring his name in the credits as co-composer. He offered, as way of explanation, an instance from the life of late director Raj Kapoor (RK).
RK was known to have composed a lot of his films' music, and when he was asked why he never took credit for them, the late director had said, "Main sangeetkaar ke pet par laat nahin marna chahta (I don't want to take away the composer's bread and butter)."
About Kapoor's contribution, Pritam said, "Pankajji has a great musical ear and a strong understanding of lyrics. He selected the best songs from a large selection I gave him. He involved himself completely in the film's music."
In fact, apart from his abilities as a music composer, Kapoor is also known to be a good singer. He is expected to sing in the forthcoming film, Happi.
