Beatles legend Paul McCartney haswritten to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh requesting him todeclare January 12 a meat-free day in India.
McCartney, an active member of the animal welfareorganisation, wants to commemorate the founding anniversary ofPeople for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)on January 12.
In a letter to Singh, the text of which was released byPETA, McCartney said such a declaration would save countlessanimals and will be a "celebration of life."
A vegetarian, the former Beatles member suggestedthat the Prime Minister may "please think about" declaringevery January 12 as a meat-free day of Vegetarian Day, to"celebrate vegetarianism and compassion towards animals."
Such a declaration would save countless animals, reduceenvironmental devastation caused by the meat industry and helpparticipants clear their arteries and their conscience. Itwould be a celebration of life all life," he said.
He added that if slaughter houses had glass walls, everyonewould be vegetarian and pointed to a recent video expose aboutanimals killed for food called "Glass Walls", released inIndia on PETAIndia.com.
