New Delhi:
Director Vasan Bala, who was at the 65th Cannes Film Festival for the screening of his film Peddlers, was detained at the Mumbai airport today. He was reportedly detained for about an hour and had to pay duty on an iPad allegedly gifted to him by Anurag Kashyap, who was with him.
A furious Anurag posted a series of tweets about the recent incident, blaming Indian Customs.
"Customs forced Vasan Bala to pay duty on the ipad that i bought him from Chroma in Mumbai as a gift for his film getting selected for Cannes.
Apparently you cant carry the iPad and laptop together even if you bought it here in Mumbai, #indiancustomssuck
Producer Guneet Monga, who works for Anurag Kashyap Films, also tweeted saying even she was detained with Vasan Bala.
"#Indian #customs detained @Vasan_Bala n me at #mumbai #airport for carrying our own #ipad bought from India!! we paid 36% duty #ridiculous."
