Subhash Kapoor, directorof Phas Gaye Re Obama, a small budget comedy starring NehaDhupia and Rajat Kapoor, says the film shows the repercussionsof the global recession on the world of crime.
"People see the global recession as a phenomenatriggering unemployment and fall in market income. But it hada deep impact on everyone and we have taken an initiative toportray this anxiety in a humourous way," said directorSubhash Kapoor during the special screening of the film in thecapital.
The director also claimed said that the December 3release is the first film to be made on the economic crisis'effects on the crime world.
"It occurred to me that the late recession whichbecamea global phenomena must have had an impact on the underworldactivities as well. Then we hit upon the idea to make a filmon this serious subject matter in a rib-tickling manner," headded.
Phas Gaye... revolves around a NRI who getskidnapped by a small gang, which later on entangles others inthe crime world as well as a minister. The hilarious climaxshows the various groups fighting over the ransom money.
"Film industry over the months has witnessed a spateof box office success of films made on an economical budgetwhich proves that if a film has a great storyline withexcellent execution then it is destined to receive a thumbs upfrom the audience. This is our inspiration," said Kapoor whosefilm has been made on a budget of Rs 3 crore.
However, the director believes that we have entereda phase of new wave in cinema and it is not necessary to showa glamorous world in order to impress the audience.
Phas gaye... boasts of great performances by thestarcast. The central character of the gang leader is playedby Sanjay Mishra, Rajat Kapoor plays the NRI, Vijendra Kala aspolice inspector, Neha Dhupia as the lady Gabbar Singh andAmol Gupte as the corrupt minister.
The producer of the film is Ashok Pandey with thisbeing his first production.
Meanwhile, director Kapoor added that his next filmJaali LLB is in talks to rope in Shah Rukh Khan as the lead.
