New Delhi:
Director Shoojit Sircar's Piku is going full steam ahead at the box office with Monday's takings bringing its collections up past Rs 29 crores in four days. (Movie Review: Piku)
Film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted:
Piku, which is the story of a Delhi-based architect, played by Deepika, and her hypochondriac father, played by Amitabh Bachchan, started slow with an opening day earning of Rs 5 crore on May 8.
However, revenues gathered pace and the film made Rs 19.9 crores over the weekend. Piku has also won over the international box office, minting nearly Rs 14 crores in the opening weekend.
Reviews of the film have praised Juhi Chaturvedi's writing, Shoojit Sircar's directing and the performances of the main actors - Deepika, Mr Bachchan and Irrfan Khan.
This week, Piku may dominate the box office but Friday brings with it the possibility of being dislodged from its position by Anurag Kashyap's much-awaited Bombay Velvet. The film, based on Gyan Prakash's Mumbai Fables, stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar in lead roles.
Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar's anti-corruption action film Gabbar Is Back scraped together Rs 3.45 crores in the second weekend, bringing its grand total to Rs 71.62 crores.
Hollywood action film Avengers: Age of Ultron was close on its heels:
Film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted:
